CAMBRIA Restoration Diary: Full Story

Full Story ImageMay Restoration News

In our last diary entry we mentioned the vertical coamings which bound the hatch opening to the hold area. Our picture this time shows the main hatchway timbers in place. The are laid on a felt and tar mix then through bolted with extra long galvanised bolts which finish within each deck beam or carling.

You will also see that the inner face of the longest side is still unfinished, this is to allow for a final 1 1/2'' of timber to be glued to the surface to form a final thickness of 5". The upper horizontal surface of this new section will form a ledge on which the hatch covers will rest. A similar process is being used to construct the smaller forward hatchway.
