CAMBRIA Restoration Diary: Full Story
Spectacular view of deck structure from the after end, January 2010.
Since we last displayed this photographic view (June 2009) the two 12" wide timber margin planks have been fitted from bow to stern. These planks locate the position of the two hatchway openings and will eventually carry the heavy hatch coamings. They also form the guideline for the fitting of the 3" thick deck timbers. Decking now covers the central mastcase deck and has recently been completed at the after end from which the picture was taken.
The long deck planks seen in the hold are being prepared for fitting to the outside of the margin planks and will be supported by the short deck beams which are painted white and called carlings.
The square hole in the forefront of the picture locates the companionway opening to the after cabin, store room and electrical generator area. A further hole in the decking has been left for the skylight.
