Latest Edith May
It was back in April that I last mentioned Lower Halstow and the SB Edith May, then looking very smart (but sail-less) and having her lee boards repainted on trestles on the grass alongside. I was back in on the website today and there have been great developments since then and huge progress.
26th May (2010) has her back off the blocks (just! Apparently “the tide did not make up as high as predicted and it was only on the very last dregs of the incoming tide that she eventually floated clear”) and expecting delivery of sails.
31st May has the sails delivered, the mizzen set and the “barges boat (built by Barry Tester at Hollowshore) has now been launched and will soon be hanging in the davits aboard the barge”
By the 7th June the sails are on, the mast is winched upright and she is looking “pretty as a picture” (there are, of course, photos to prove it).
The site goes on “On July 10th, the restoration of the Edith May was officially completed with a grand launch party in Lower Halstow Dock. With the jazz band playing, all her old winner’s pennants were set flying and looked amazing as they fluttered in the breeze on an absolutely scorching day.” All these posts get some lovely encouraging feedback which includes some nice comment from old-timers who have known the barge from years back.

but from me too, well done all involved in Edith May and congratulations on a job beautifully done. Brilliant website, too, the Edith May Team.
