CAMBRIA News: Full Story

News StoryDavid Hayes

It was David's wish that the remainder of his tools be given to the Cambria project for distribution to the shipwright apprentices or sold to raise restoration funding. This most valuable gift includes a wealth of woodworking tools, with 15 planes and over 120 assorted chisels. David's partner has also given to the Trust, a boy's Apprenticeship Indenture dated June 1919, and made out in the name of Ernest John Hayes, David's father. The seven-year apprenticeship agreement is with the company of FT Everard, the builder and owner of Cambria. The starting salary is for 10 shillings per week (50p). There is a very strong possibility that Ernest carried out repairs to Cambria.
